Lovely original example of the classic Smoker’s Bow Armchair, often referred to as a Captain’s Chair, in Beech with Elm seat. They were also popular as desk chairs.
Dating from the mid 19th Century this classic design of chair is one of the most comfortable and practical styles of the classic Windsor chair period.
This one is of generous proportions with a 50 cm wide and 48 cm deep seat of full height. The overall size is 63 cm wide at the arms and a total depth of 65 cm.
The condition is very good, free from woodworm, solid and sound. It has a couple of small areas on the under stretchers where it was chewed by a dog at some time in it’s life and a small repair to the top corner of the back but this just adds to the rustic charm of a lovely chair.
