A lovely antique country made blanket box made from English Elm throughout with a scumbled paint finish to simulate Mahogany panels in oak framing ., a style which would date this box to the 1880 period. The interior is fitted with a candle box and is supplied with the original key.
Blanket boxes usually sat at the end of the bed but this one is a little smaller than usual so was probably kept under the bed.
The size is 87 cm long with a width of 40 cm and a height of 36 cm.
The condition is good with one small break to the corner edging strip to the lid, a circular mark on the top scumble finish but no sign of woodworm.
Nice piece of English country furniture!
