Particularly large copper kettle bearing the makers mark for Edward Villiers Wilkes of Birmingham.
The kettle is good quality heavy copper with dovetail jointed seams to back and base.
E.V. Wilkes are known to have existed before 1829 and became Lee & Wilkes in 1907.
Hard to find good quality larger kettles in good condition because the extra weight meant that the bottoms wore through quicker by rubbing on the tops of the iron grates.
