- I find this quality antique Japanese Kayaki Wood (elm) Kanto Naga Hibachi on stand really rather special indeed. Dating c. 1880-1900 these beautifully made portable tea cabinets were used as mini braziers – the copper tray part filled with sand then a charcoal fire lit below a trivet where sat your teapot thus providing the home with both warmth and a perfect brew. I have no doubt it would work as well today (should you wish to try) as it did 150 years ago. This example has had the addition of a piece of safety glass over the copper tray section allowing use as a charming side table.
