Giuseppe “Bepi” Santomaso (1907-1990) was an Italian painter and teacher. Santomaso was an important figure in 20th century Italian painting. He taught art at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia for 20 years.
This 100cm x 100cm original painting was purchased by an art collector in Spain during the 1980s and has come directly from his estate. Unsigned to face the stretcher bears both name and nickname of Santomaso. If this large very accomplished artwork of two nudes can be attributed to the artist this would be an important, not to mention valuable find. The canvas shows traces where we presume exhibition labels were once attached but no other identifiable markers present.
Inspection welcome.
